The printout shows a motif from a film by the artist under the same title. Polska’s visual essay was inspired by Albert Einstein’s words on the theory of general relativity. The “happiest thought” would be, according to Einstein, the perspective of a person in free fall for whom gravity seems non-existent. The story told by the artist takes us back 250 million years in time, to the so-called Permian-Triassic extinction event. In this subtle image showing a mysterious face, its mouth and eyes open to a blue sky slightly overcast with soft clouds, the artist tells a tale about how in the wake of disintegration and destruction a new beginning always follows.
