The first part of the tour focuses on architecture. The program covers the concept behind the museum building designed by Thomas Phifer, including key architectural elements: materials, light, and the viewer's experience. It also situates the architect within the modernist tradition and places the building in its urban context—encompassing both historical and contemporary dimensions—with particular emphasis on the museum’s role within Warsaw’s city center. In the second part, we will visit the"Sculpture Beyond the Solid" exhibition, which unfolds in dialogue with the museum’s architecture. We will explore how the works on display—spanning from the staircase to the galleries—challenge the traditional understanding of sculpture as a self-contained, permanent form, presenting it instead as a process-based system of relationships. We will focus on how contemporary sculptural practices organize space and viewer movement, effectively turning the building itself into an active participant in the exhibition. The tour does not include areas inaccessible to the public.

The exhibition explores Surrealism’s global engagement in the struggle against fascism, colonialism, and traditional forms of authority, focusing on art as a force for radical transformation. Organized into twelve chapters, it brings together not only artworks but also a wide range of archival materials. During the guided tour, the guide will discuss selected works and their historical and cultural contexts, while also answering participants’ questions.

In the first part of the tour, we will explore the work of Edward Dwurnik, who portrayed society through his series Athletes and Workers. His paintings offer a critical and unflinching record of everyday life in communist Poland, particularly the processes of class transformation and social mobility. With his characteristic insight and irony, Dwurnik examined the cultural, psychological, and identity-related consequences of these changes. The second part of the tour focuses on the exhibition “Ways of The Black spread over the White Land”, which examines Polish relationships with Blackness and Sub-Saharan Africa during the communist era. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, as successive African countries gained independence, the Polish People’s Republic established partnerships with many of them. These political connections led to exchanges of people and ideas, while also shaping the visual culture and artistic milieu of the period. Considering these two exhibitions together offers a nuanced perspective on the political and social history of the era, revealing the complex transformations that shaped both Polish society and its international relationships.
