Curatorial tour in English of the exhibition "In the very bovels of changes: Surrealism and Antifascism"

Join us for a special curator-led tour of the exhibition You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism. Participation in the tour requires the purchase of an admission ticket. Public Program for the Exhibition "In the very bovels of changes: Surrealism and Antifascism" In 2024, Karin Althaus, Adrian Djukić, and Stephanie Weber curated the exhibition “But Live Here. No Thanks: Surrealism and Antifascism” for the Lenbachhaus, a museum of modern and contemporary art in Munich. The three will guide through the exhibition at MSN sharing their thoughts, ideas, successes, and failures during the organization of the initial exhibition. The tour will include conversations about what Surrealism might be, which encounters took place between the artists whose work is presented in the exhibition, and close observation of selected works. Karin Althaus has been the Head of Collection and Curator of Art up to 1945 at the Lenbachhaus since 2007 where she has organized exhibitions and publications on Gabriel von Max, Florine Stettheimer, Emma Kunz, J.M.W. Turner, and thematic exhibitions such as “Group Dynamics: Collectives of the Modern Period” (collectively curated), or “Art and Life 1918-1955” which looked at the biographies of artists in the Lenbachhaus collection. Adrian Djukić has been a librarian at the Lenbachhaus since 2022. Previously, he worked as an art book dealer and was the archivist at the Kunstverein München. At Lenbachhaus, he has recently co-curated with Karin Althaus “A Long-Distance Call: Scenes from the Weimar Republic”, has contributed with his research to "Art and Life", an exhibition on biographies during the Nazi period, and worked on West German phenomena such as the reception of Günter Fruhtrunk. Stephanie Weber has been the Curator of contemporary art at Lenbachhaus Munich since 2014. Before, she worked in the curatorial department of Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. At Lenbachhaus Stephanie’s exhibition and publications include “Senga Nengudi: Topologies”, “Lea Lublin: Retrospective”, and “Radio-Activity” (with Karin Althaus) departing from Bertolt Brecht’s radio theory and gathering works by internationalist groups from the Weimar Republic through the 1970s. Together, the three curated the exhibition “But Live Here. No Thanks: Surrealism and Antifascism” at Lenbachhaus in 2024 and edited the accompanying publication, an extensive source book dedicated to the topic.
